About Genre Yorkies

Genre Yorkies by Sarah Henery

The kennel name developed from my name and my father's name (John and Sarah). My father, a long time breeder of pet Yorkies, introduced me to the breed. It is because of his love for the breed that I have decided to dedicate my life to these amazing animals.

I started showing in 2008 with my first little girl, Catherine. Walnut Hills Catherine of Aragon is a female bred by my father. I knew she wasn't perfect, but I decided to show her to get myself in to the ring and to immerse myself in the world of Yorkshire terriers. She was certainly a learning experience! We had a lot of fun in the ring, learned a lot, and met some truly wonderful people. But, as Catherine grew (or, rather, didn't grow) it became obvious that she was too small to continue showing. She is now a little over a year old and just shy of 4 pounds. She has been "retired" and is our little house pet, bed warmer.

I am taking a break from showing for a little while to focus on my growing Yorkie grooming products venture.

My entire purpose in this adventure is to learn more about the breed and eventually breed my own line of Yorkshire terriers. When I consider breeding, it will be for the sole purpose of bettering the breed.
